Serves: 3-4 pax




  • 1 cup Urad Daal
  • 1 TSP of Pepper Whole
  • 1 or 2 green chili, chopped – Salt to taste,
  • Hing
  • Oil for deep frying




  • Soak the urad daal for 2 hours
  • Strain it completely, using a strainer, for at atleast 15 mins to drain out the water completely
  • Grind it into a smooth batter and sprinkle a few drops of water every few min
  • The batter should be smooth and thick
  • Add chopped chillies, few pepper whole and hing powder
  • Mix the batter thoroughly
  • Heat oil in a pan and when hot, make vadas from the batter and slide it gently into the oil
  • During the frying cycle flip the vadas alternatively from time to time
  • Serve the vadas with chutney and sambar.
